With Masks On, Let Your Eyes Do The Talking!

With Masks On, Let Your Eyes Do The Talking!

With masks becoming mandatory while stepping out, the makeup industry has gone through a makeover of sorts to calibrate with the ongoing trend.  ‘Dramatic eyes’ and not ‘tinted lips’ is the new game in town. Beauty bloggers and influencers are coming up with new make-up trends adapting to the ubiquity of face masks, to let the eyes do all the talking!

Rishika, a budding beauty blogger, says that for your eye makeup to look spot on, you really need healthy eyes, and for that, proper care is required which includes care from outside as well as inside. Take proper vitamins, reduce screen time, moisture your skin near the eyes and get ample sleep to maintain the natural beauty of your eyes. “And when it comes to makeup, I think one should always go for a style in which one is confident enough, whether it’s cat eye, winged liner, smoky eye, or dramatic look,” she explains.

With dramatic eyes already being a style statement for some time, in the COVID world, demand for false lashes, glitter shadows, neon colours, coloured liners and funky eye lenses, has gone up.

Shagufta Yasmin, a Hijabi medical-student says, “I have been wearing a niqab for the past three years and I have been ridiculed a lot by all but friends for wearing a niqab and by relatives for wearing makeup with a niqab.” She believes that one should do what they feel right and not due to pressure. She loves makeup, mostly eyes and brows makeup as that’s her style statement. She recommends a subtle makeup for a casual everyday look and a dramatic heavy eye makeup, matching the niqab on special occasions. This dreadful pandemic has made us all Niqabis now”, she smiles.

The majority of the “coronavirus inspired makeup looks” focus on statement eye makeup adhering to the normalcy of masks. Eye shadow is the new lipstick, thanks to coronavirus masks.

Padmasini Purohit (Gunjan Makeup Zone) a certified bridal makeup artist explains, “It’s simple. If your lips can’t tell the story, let your eyes do all the talking. Makeup will always remain in demand because that’s more of a habit for us today. But eye makeup is more in demand today because the face is covered with a mask. Pairing your mask and eye shadow is also a great idea to stand out in the crowd. If you’re a working lady, go for a boho look as it draws attention to the eyes. And please do not forget to use an eye cream-it is essential.”

No wonder, post lockdown, the sale of eyeliners and eye shadow products has gone up immensely.

Andy

According to make-up expert and influencer Andy, “The idea is to tweak your eye makeup now, as eyes are the only part of the face that is visible. Experiment with coloured liner, lash extensions, mascara and funky eye lenses. But for an everyday office-wear look, style your kajal differently. You can go for a wing, arrow, fishtail or creased. This will keep your look fresh and on-the-go.” Andy says that often people just find one look and stick to it for ages, especially with liners. This is the time to get creative. Try winged liners and colour the inner and outer corners differently and make sure your brows are in point, if not, then there’s ample of time to grow them out and shape them to perfection, he added.

With the mask becoming today’s most coveted accessory with no surety of the pandemic coming to an end, your eyes would have to be the centre of your attention, as far as makeup goes, for a long time to come. So, experiment and enjoy. Do not forget to share your tips in the comment box below.
