This World Emoji Day Reflect on a Life without Emojis :-)

How boring texting your friends would be if they didn’t see a graphical representation of you rolling on the floor laughing, so hard that you had tears in your eyes? Or how difficult it would be showering your love on your beloved if you didn’t have those hundred hearts with you? You see, emojis make it so much easier for us to express our emotions.Picture Courtesy: Pinterest

The evolution of emoticons along with the evolution of mobile phones to smartphones led to the development of emojis. Emojis are ideograms used in text messages and on social media.

Since 2014, July 17 is observed as World Emoji Day. The credit goes to Jeremy Burge, the London-based founder of “Emojipedia”, because of the iOS calendar emoji which read July 17.

July 17, 2015 was the top trending topic on Twitter with Pepsi launching the PepsiMoji, an emoji keyboard and custom World Emoji Day cans in more than 100 markets worldwide. The following year, in 2016, Sony Pictures Animations announced the Emoji Movie while Emojipedia announced the first World Emoji Awards. Last year, London’s Royal Opera House presented 20 operas and ballets as emojis and in an extraordinaire, the winners of the World Emoji Awards were announced from the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange and Broadcast on Cheddar.

From just about 28 known characters, we now have at least 2,666 to choose from, with more emojis coming up by the day. There are emojis to represent the vast demographic users, including all skin-tones and hair types too. For 22 year old college-student, Baibhav Mishra, emojis have made typing easier and time-saving too “Emojis are like a mini language for me. They’re an interactive method of talking to people and useful in flirting with pretty girls too.”, he chuckles.

Amrit Sahu, a 22 year old architecture student says emojis save him from upsetting his girlfriend, and how! “If we are texting and there is a sudden change in the type of emoji or no emoji at all, I can sense something upset her. Emojis have become like punctuation, their use at different places convey different meaning.”, he further explains.

However, 24 year old MBA student, Saatyaki Panigrahi doesn’t share the same enthusiasm about emojis, “A lot of brevity is lost in the emojis as people often tend to over-use it and sometimes irritatingly so. Like any other popular culture from the west, emojis are annoying when used unnecessarily.”

Yet, the evolution of emojis hasn’t stopped and in all likelihood will not even in the future.Picture Courtesy: getemoji.com

Animoji, the interactive emojis are emojis fitted to AI to recognise our faces and interact with it. The endless possibilities with emojis is luring graphic designers into switching to the emoji line with such wonderful prospects.

So, are you an emoji person? ????
