Talk of trending Odia YouTubers and there is no way one can miss Vishwajeet Dash. Vishwajeet started with a lifestyle channel where he was a one-man army showing his subscribers the intricacies that make Bhubaneswar beautiful. But today his channel ‘JustVish’ with 18k subscribers has vlogs ranging from travel, moto-vlogs to the gastronomical ones exploring different food and cuisine. And most of them effortlessly portray Odisha as a beautiful state.

On how the very first video surfaced on the channel, he says, “I think I posted my first video back in early 2016 when I was leaving Bangalore to move base to Odisha. I wanted to capture the last few days in the city. It was more of a personal attempt to preserve our memories forever about the places we frequented.” During his days in Bangalore while nurturing a start-up, the stringent budget required him to document certain aspects of the business in promotional videos. “Basically, I learnt how to use a DSLR just by watching YouTube videos. This experience gave me exposure about the key aspects of filmmaking and I found it liberating. I was excited and interested to know more about this form of expression and storytelling.”

Once back in Odisha, there was no stopping Vishwajeet. “For quite some time, my corporate life had kept me away from my homeland and I had not seen much of Odisha. When I moved back to Bhubaneswar in early 2016, I decided to explore the hinterland of Odisha and use my new skill to capturemy adventure stories in the form of vlogs on my new YouTube channel JustVish. It turned out pretty well and people from all over the world subscribed to watch my YouTube videos.”Opening up about the most challenging video he’s shot so far, he adds, “My most challenging story so far has been the Bandhavgarh Jungle Vlog Series. It took me two months to plan, shoot and put together this three-part series and I am very happy with the way it turned out. As a one-man crew, I need to be in the director mode always and my mind races through a long mental checklist. It can be anything from composition, to audio levels, to the next sequence and so on.” But as they say, even the most difficult journeys turn better withpeople who support us. Vishwajeet is quick to add, “Sometimes I have some great friends, like Pankaj, Rachit, Vasudee and Veeru, who accompany me on my adventures and help shoot these videos. I think the most rewarding part is witnessing these marvels of nature on road trips with friends.”
