Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj opens its gates from today

The Similipal national park has opened its gates to tourists from today after being closed for four months due to the monsoon season. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the tourist, who can opt either for a day visit or a night stay at the national park. While last year the same opening occurred on 1st November, this year the decision was taken to open the gates from 14th October, keeping in mind the Dussehra holidays.

The visitors can enter between 6 am and 9 am through two gates. 35 vehicles are allowed through the Kaliani gate from Jashipur side, while 25 vehicles can enter through Lulung in Baripada side. The visitors have been asked to leave the park from Barehipani and Jaranda by 3 pm and Chahala by 4 pm.

The Similipal national park has been declared plastic free for the first time. The park authorities have roped in local self-help groups (SHGs) to offer an array of cooked delicacies to the visitors. With this the tourists get a chance to try out some of the local food items to have a complete travel experience.

Similipal is home to 1076 varieties of mammals, 231 species of birds, and 29 reptile species. Apart from wildlife, there are the picturesque hills, rivers, trees and fresh air that tourists can enjoy. The place offers an ambience of greenery, biodiversity, waterfalls and nature at its very best.
