Shiv Sundar Das Appointed Indian Women’s Cricket Team Batting Coach
Former India opener Shiv Sunder Das has been appointed the batting coach of the Indian women’s cricket team for the tour of England and he is looking forward to using his coaching stint at NCA to guide the youngsters during the trip. Das played for India in 23 Test matches and had a batting average of 34.9 and a strike rate of 38.9 during his tenure.
Das has scored 1326 runs which includes two centuries and nine half centuries. The 43-year-old former Odisha skipper feels that It will be a good experience and he is looking forward to the stint. Das has honed his skills at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as a batting coach under batting maestro Rahul Dravid.
Das has been a part of NCA for the last 4-5 years and has been batting coach for the last couple of years. He feels that there is not a lot of difference and at the end of the day, you impart your knowledge, and work with players. One contributes to the youngsters’ success and should be ready to solve their cricketing issues.
Das was a part of the Indian team that toured England under Ganguly in 2002 and scored 250 in a first-class tour game. Das believes that his experience of having played years of league cricket in England will also prove to be very helpful. He knows the conditions and those experiences will count.
The Indian women’s cricket team will be playing a Test match after a long time but the new batting coach is confident that with the senior pros like Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami in the side, adapting to conditions won’t be very difficult.
