Restaurant Employees Get The Jab In Special Vaccination Drive

Restaurant Employees Get The Jab In Special Vaccination Drive

The restaurant industry has been one of the hardest hit during the pandemic. Just as things were getting back to normal at the beginning of the year, the second wave of COVID 19 hit hard and this time it was deadlier than last year. The restaurant industry tried to get a grip on the situation by quickly and aggressively adapting to the online mode of business. However it is not enough to sustain. So the Restaurant Association of Odisha (RAO) in association with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) successfully organised a vaccination drive for its members and their employees on Friday.

Through the drive, the members and their employees were given their first dose of vaccine. 421 people got the jab in two sessions. The morning session had 250 slots and the afternoon session had 50 slots. The drive was conducted at IRC Village UPHC. The employees came in their uniforms along with a letter on the restaurant’s letterhead.

Talking to My City Links, Rajiv Swain, President of RAO, said, “We requested the BMC to conduct a vaccination drive for restaurant employees as we come in contact with a lot of customers everyday. We wanted to do it so that both our employees and customers feel safe in our restaurants. There is a clear and present danger from COVID 19 as many of our staff were infected by the coronavirus. So the vaccine is one step towards the safety of everyone.”

He added, “The Restaurant Association of Odisha has over 65 member restaurants. We have requested the BMC for 1200 slots and we are thankful that they accepted it. Many of the employees do not know how to book a slot for vaccination. So this was an opportunity for them to get vaccinated without any hassle. On Monday we will try to vaccinate 450 more of our employees.”

“It will take some time for business to reach full potential. Vaccinating our employees will help in allaying the fears of our customers. This will give our customers confidence. I think we should be back to full form in the next three to four months as both the customers and our employees are getting vaccinated,” he hoped.
