Odisha Forest Department Renamed After Addition Of Climate Action
The State government has renamed the Forest and Environment Department to the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department.
This amendment has been informed by the General Administration office and published in the Odisha Gazette. The State Cabinet led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had supported the proposition of the division on 10th May, 2021.
The Cabinet has taken ten important decisions relating to the departments of Water Resources, Industries, Commerce and Transport, General Administration and Public Grievance, and Home.
Presently the division will be the nodal organization of the State for environmental change activities.
Advancement of State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) alongside different plans, strategy, program, projects on environmental activities and execution plan in accordance with the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), 2015 according to the State viewpoint in close co-appointment with the line divisions will be its obligation.
At the meeting of the State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, it was decided that the Forest and Environment Department will be renamed as Forest Environment and Climate Change Department.
The major decisions taken by Odisha Cabinet in this meeting are:
- Rules to regulate the method of recruitment and service conditions of the persons appointed in the Odisha nursing college education service;
- Command area development and water management activities in irrigated commands;
- Utilization of groundwater resources through deep bore wells with solar pump system in remote areas of the State under Buju Krishak Vikash Yojana Deep Borewell Secha Yojana;
- Approval of tender for construction of sports infrastructure facilities in Kalinga Stadium Bhubaneswar and Construction of new international hockey stadium at Rourkela for Hockey World Cup;
- Amendment of Negative list for addition of manufacturing/ refilling of medical oxygen/ container;
- Amendment of Odisha transport – traffic and enforcement rules, 2013;
- Amendment of Odisha ex-servicemen (recruitment to State Civil Services and Posts) Rules;
- Annual report on activities of Odisha Public Service Commission for the year 2017-18; and
- Framing of the Rules for accommodation and other services in Bhawans owned and maintained by the Home department outside the State-2021.
Distinguishing key weaknesses of the State to environmental change, surveying the requirement for variation to future environmental change and the extension for consolidating these in important projects, including watershed the board, beachfront zone arranging and guideline, fisheries and creature assets improvement, ranger service the executives, farming advancements and practices, transport and wellbeing projects will be key worries of the division related to climate change.
The division will zero in on detailing strategies for advancement of non-regular elective wellsprings of energy like sunlight based energy and wind energy and support the utilization of such assets.
Preparation of accounts from different public, global, multilateral, two-sided and different sources including private accomplices will be its post.
