Odisha Biennale 2019 To Attract Art and Culture Lovers From All Over!

Organised by Mudra Foundation, this year, the theme of the festival is ‘Illusion’. Talking to MCL, Chairman of Mudra Foundation Manas Das and Masako Ono who is the Managing Trustee for Mudra informed that it took them over one and a half years to communicate with artists from various countries and rope them in for this cultural event.

“We have been organising Odisha Biennale since 2013 to promote the richness of pure art and culture. People, especially the youth have forgotten the essence of our diverse heritage and the vitality of art. Mudra has taken a step to revive it through Odisha Biennale,” they further informed.

This year the grand festival would also witness participation of international artists. Performing arts, theatre along with street illusions are also scheduled during the evenings. The entry is free of cost to attract huge number of people. Apart from these, different workshops such as contemplative theatre, contemporary dance, editorial design, DIY bamboo quilling, kids’ painting and many more activities would be taking place during the day at a reasonable participation fee.

Dance and theatre groups such as Surya Performance Lab, KAN Collective, KAAC, Vonnos, Adi Shakti Theatre Art are a part of this festival and would keep everyone engaged with their performances while dance Illusion events such as VAST, Nidravathawam, Vacant Seat, Border Line, Seek and Hide and Lengpum Sokchon would leave audiences spellbound.

Some of the other highlights include music illusion by Laxman Das Baul, Akito Sengoku and Kim Youngjae and Music and Mediation by Mahesh Vinayakram.

With a tag line of ‘find him or he will find you’, Lost Alien will be a street illusion by Osamu Adachi that would be held from 26 December to 31st December. That apart, Dancer Fabiola Guillen would present her solo performance ‘My Eden’.

Another interesting element would be ‘Carried Cabin’ which will be a public participative installation performance where in cardboard will be used to construct castles and other structures. Later people would be carried in it around the city!

The nine day fiesta is going be a huge opportunity to learn about performing arts and crafts and global culture. So, do not forget to experience the grandeur at the heart of the city.
