Odia Woman Wins Mrs. India Queen Of Substance Title

A lady plays many roles in her life; she is a daughter, a wife, a mother, a daughter-in-law, and a boss-lady and many other hats. But many times she misses being what she is. With this vision, Mrs India Queen of Substance, a contest that gives women this much-needed break which allows them to explore the Me in Her came into existence. Odisha’s Gargi Kar from Bolangir has won the 2021 title in its 13th season. She exemplified her beauty, talent, intelligence and compassion and won the praises of the judges.

My City Links got into a candid conversation with her to know more about her journey.

Gargi is a 39 year old software engineer and a single mother to a 10 year old son. She is a self-sufficient and independent woman of the 21st century. Hailing from Bolangir, she has been an active participant in cultural activities since her school days. She had earlier represented Odisha on the National level in 1998 when she was a NCC sergeant and led Odisha JD platoon in the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi. She is a keen sports enthusiast as well and she had created a hattrick by being the sports champion of her school for 3 consecutive years.

Gargi is a very optimistic person by nature and she believes in seeing the goodness in everything and embracing life with all its ups and downs. “Being in NCC has made me a disciplined person. I am disciplined yet a fun-loving person. I love to be part of different social and cultural events. Time is very precious for me and I have always endeavoured to make the best use of it. I have always been into singing, dancing and painting. Socializing has been the best utilisation of my time,” she shared.

Currently preparing for GATE and pursuing her M.Tech. degree in Roorkee, she decided to spice up her life by participating in this interesting pageant. “The pandemic was really a difficult time for me. When I found out about this contest, I decided to participate in it. Initially we had to produce a video, which I choreographed for myself and send it online. My video has the highest views among the 43 contestants. For me, it was honestly a time-off from my routine life. Being selected and then winning it was like a dream come true. My beautiful sashes (Finalist sash, Best Personality sash and Winner sash) and my gorgeous crown are currently my most prized possessions,” she chuckled.

“This was a much-needed change for us women after continuously performing daily responsibilities. The pandemic created lots of chaos in every woman’s life and they were limited to sit back, work and handle daily duties. Passion and talent took a backseat for most of us. Mrs. India: Queen of Substance gave us some time to live exclusively for ourselves. The winners and the contestants will get a kickstart not only for an ambitious career but also for their talent, passion, and creativity,” shared the stunning winner.

“I truly believe that this pageant is very genuine. Organizers and producers scrounge for women who do justification to whichever field they belong to. I was also awarded the Best Personality title,” she added.

Sharing her journey, she said, “We had a tight schedule and a disciplined routine for 3 days. Our training was fun and very informative. On the D-day, we had a sports round which was followed by 3 rounds, namely, Red little dress round, Cultural round and Evening gown round. The team strongly had faith in celebrating womanhood and took the honor to acknowledge women and their achievements and applaud their valiant efforts against all odds. The contestants went through a transformational journey with the industry’s best grooming experts, make-up artists, fitness experts, and celebrity judges.”

“Cultural round was my favourite. A true-blue Odia girl, I promoted our Sambalpuri handloom. I was dressed up in a sambalpuri saree and used the Konark Chakra as my prop. It was appreciated by the judges a lot,” she beamed with pride.

Her father Dinabandhu Kar was an acclaimed yoga practitioner. She credits her father for instilling the habit of a healthy lifestyle in her. Her mother Ramrati Bhattacharya is a retired school teacher. Sharing insight on her future plans, she said, “I am now focusing on the offers that I have in hand. My social service is first and foremost and since I have got the social limelight now, I would love to use that to reach out to more people and NGOs and be of some help. This crown is my superpower now and I’ll use it to everybody’s benefit.”

The Director and Founder of Mrs. India Queen Of Substance are the power couple Vijay Yadava and Ritika Vinay. Instilling freshness and a competitive spirit amongst them, this event gave all the contestants a chance to take a break for themselves, showcase and endorse their talent and also enjoy a little bit after months of monotonous schedule.
