Odia Woman Bestows A Safe Home for Children Of Convicts

An angel in disguise, Nirajalaxmi Mohapatra is one such lady, who runs a hostel for children of convicted persons, serving jail terms. The hostel called, ‘Madhurmayee Adarsha Siksha Niketan’ has transformed many lives. More than 200 convicts’ children have found a ray of hope in leading a normal life in society and have landed good jobs.

Through this unique initiative, she has been instrumental in providing the innocent children with care and support, and most importantly a safe home, since 2003. With the jail authorities’ permission, education, health and overall development of children is taken care of. The well-being of the children of the convicts serving time in the jail is the prime motto of this organisation.

When Nirajalaxmi was working with women prison convicts, she came across two of their children playing in the Bhubaneswar Special Jail. The poor lifestyle of the children there irked her conscience. Since the family was convicted, the children were left to themselves

She then gathered all details about implementing her plan. She commenced the procedure to procure permissions and worked out all the required legalities that were required to build a home for these children and help them lead a life with dignity.

A godmother to these children, she has been the driving force in pushing these children towards a better life of nobility. At present, 55 children are staying and studying in the hostel.

My City Links wishes Nirajalaxmi to be the empowering woman she has been and be exemplary in her actions.
