Odia Girl Drives To Her Wedding Venue And Becomes Internet Sensation

For centuries, in the name of honour, patriarchy has prevented women from doing what they should be doing without anyone’s permission. Today’s young girls are finally shattering the shackles of patriarchy one prejudiced bias at a time. Recently a video of a bride driving a car to her wedding in her wedding attire created curiosity among the people of Bhubaneswar. 

“Many people wanted to know why the bride was driving the car to her own wedding and they wanted to share the video on their social media for doing the unexpected,” said food blogger Manisha Patnaik who initially had uploaded the video on her Instagram stories. 

Talking about how she ended up at the wheel, Sagarika Behera said, “People were happy to see the video which was unexpected. We are two sisters and my parents were busy attending the guests at the venue. I was with my sister and cousins for the bridal make-up but none of them knew driving, so I decided to drive myself to the wedding venue.” 

She further added, “I feel all girls should be independent and should be able to take charge of situations whenever required. If I would have waited for someone to drive me to the mandap then I would have definitely been late and it would have been unnecessary. My dad told me if I can come by myself then I should do it.”
