Modernized Bhubaneswar Railway Station to Open First Phase in October 2025
Big changes are coming to Bhubaneswar’s railway hub! The first phase of the much-awaited redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station is set for inauguration in October 2025, as per the Ministry of Railways.
On the east side (Cuttack Road), the G+3 building is fully completed, while on the west side (Master Canteen area), four floors of the planned G+11 structure have already been built. Interior finishing is in full swing. The entire revamp project carries an estimated cost of ₹398 crore.
This next-gen station is being developed to match international standards, offering airport-like facilities. One of its standout features is a 108-meter-long air concourse connecting both sides of the station, designed to hold over 1,000 passengers with lounges and spacious seating areas. The roof for the concourse is already under construction.
With two separate entry and exit gates on each side, the station is being built to smoothly handle over 1 lakh daily passengers, a jump from the current 77,000. Wider foot overbridges will ensure safer, smoother movement across platforms.
An elevated drive-in road near Master Canteen, approved by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), is already taking shape on the allotted land. The project is being closely coordinated between BDA and East Coast Railway, with plans for integrated commercial spaces and parking zones.
Key Features of the New Station:
Modern architecture with world-class infrastructure
Airport-style terminal and amenities
Air concourse connecting all platforms
34 lifts, 20 escalators
Baggage screening area, information kiosks, food plaza, and lounges
Dormitories (150 beds), 21 rooms for passengers, paid lounges
Children’s play zone, ATMs, food courts, and stalls
Elevated roads at entry/exit points
Digital display boards, accessible infrastructure
CCTV surveillance, luggage scanners, EV charging stations
Once Phase 1 wraps up, the second phase will kick off—adding seven more floors to the west-side building and completing the full vision of a futuristic Bhubaneswar Railway Station.
