Maniabandha Sale By OBT Showcases Amazing Weaves

Orissa By Tania (OBT) has come up with a noble initiative to lend a helping hand to the weavers of Maniabandha. The traditional weave of Maniabandha is well known for its unique designs and the detailed craftsmanship.

Tania Khosla, founder of (OBT) visited a weavers’ cluster in Maniabandha two weeks ago. The cluster has around 300 families working on traditional weaves. She found that there were a lot of unsold stock which the weavers have created during the pandemic. These hand woven gems are made of both silk and cotton.

“I have always been curious about the Maniabandha handloom. Recently somebody invited me to visit the place and I went there and had a very productive day. So that’s how Maniabandha came into my life,” said an elated Tania.

She wanted to help the weavers in some way so she decided to have an online sale between March 1- 5 through the Instagram handle of OBT. This is a digital showcase of their work. The proceeds from the sale will go directly to the weavers’ account. “I am just facilitating the sale and am not part of it in any other way. I just want to showcase their work and talent,” said Tania.

One can find the details of the artisans and their work on Instagram highlights of the handle of Orisisa By Tania (https://www.instagram.com/orissabytania/?hl=en). One can buy a saree by sending a direct message and they will get the details of the artisans through which they can make the payment and purchase their favourite Maniabandha saree.

“I thought this intervention was necessary because there were a lot of unsold stock and the artisans were confused about what to do with them. On day one we ended up selling around eight sarees out of around fifteen. We will be showcasing around 5-6 artisans. So far we have showcased only sarees and in the next few days, we will also showcase stoles and other handlooms,” signed off Tania.
