But the year 2020 has witnessed a dip in demand of the coloured sticks with face masks becoming an effective tool to battle the spread of Covid-19. As masks become the new normal, more women don’t feel the need to colour their lips anymore. Does it mean the end of the road for lipstick?

Lipstick has faced many battles and always made a comeback. With time, it has kept on evolving. And in this pandemic, the coloured stick is definitely not going down without a fight. There are still places where women can take off masks, like zoom sessions or virtual functions. From transparent face masks to matte and smudge-proof lipsticks, many new formulas have been devised to wear makeup in these difficult times. Masks with printed lipstick marks and smudge-proof lipsticks are in vogue now.

Fashion blogger Lovina Nayak who has been featured by popular brands like ‘Being Human’ and ‘Try Sugar’, said style never fades away and one needs to explore it well. “We should use matte lipsticks while wearing a mask. Though healthcare is important, fashion should not lose out during the pandemic,” she said. Lovina, who recently worked with Lalchand, recommended brands like Try Sugar and Maybelline.

Shweta Choudhury, Fashion Blogger

Another fashion blogger from Odisha Shweta Choudhury, whose wardrobe fusion was featured by Star Sports during the ongoing IPL 2020, suggested wearing smudge-proof lipstick under masks. “There are many places where you need to remove your mask, like dining or having a drink. So you should be ready to flaunt yourself boldly,” she said. Shweta finds it cute to have a lipstick mark on the corners of the mask.

Madhusmita Dash, Makeup Blogger

Madhusmita Dash, a popular makeup blogger, said though safety comes first, she has not stopped wearing lipstick. “A mask isn’t going to stop me from wearing lipstick as it makes me feel empowered,” she informed. Madhusmita also recommended wearing smudge-proof lipstick underneath a mask

Going by the creative changes, it is evident that lipstick is here to stay. Along with masks, women and girls have shifted to wearing smudge-proof and matte lipsticks to make a style statement.
