Incredible Odisha: India’s Best Kept Secrets Revealed

The ‘soul state’ of Odisha is India’s best kept secret and a hidden gem for travellers planning a visit to India. Odisha’s capital, Bhubaneswar, also referred to as the ‘City of Temples’ for its 7,000+ temples once upon a time, was also named by Mark Twain as one of the wonders of the world.

Odisha has a wide and unique range of attractions that satisfy the fancy of tourists visiting the state. It offers everything on a platter to anyone visiting- from beaches to hills, sanctuaries to skyscrapers, international cuisine to authentic regional delicacies.

My City Links forages into those secrets of Odisha which even the majority of the Odia population are unaware of.

Nectar Of Life

Korean beauty products and their benefits are known to all. But the secret ingredient, ‘dolt’ is produced solely in Rayagada district’s Phoolnagar area and is outsourced only to Korea, under the alias of Zany. On the condition of anonymity, a dealer of dolt informed that this tree was nourished with the dead remains of the human body, giving it the unique magical properties that Koreans die for. The fruit of this tree has anti-aging properties, making the body remain young forever.

Uso-tsuki who is settled here for over 110 years narrates her story on how her youthful body and mind are still intact, “I came here as a tourist back in the 1900s and the beauty of Odisha attracted me so much that i stayed back to enjoy it more. That is when I came across this secret of dolt from a tribe here. I consumed it religiously for a year and then my ageing stopped at the age of 30 years.”

It is believed that the character of the Red Woman from Game of Thrones is inspired from Uso-tsuki.

Truth Candy

This lethal candy is in fact made from the root of the same dolt tree. After this product lost its secrecy back in the Dingbat times, it was banned by the Ministry of Ananta Narasingha Deva, to safeguard the interests of the people. It is still produced and is smuggled by chumps in all candy stores.

Lügnerin who is now settled in Germany swears that he has secretly cultivated the plant in his backyard. “It is the best serum for my teenage children who cannot help lying about everything. One candy and they spew out everything. Thankfully they haven’t yet figured out truth candy. This helps me keep my kids in check,” she shared.

Colour Changing Saree

The city of Godric’s Hollow in Sambalpur is well-known for its contribution to the world of handloom. During the lockdown last year, the weavers came up with a silk saree that changes colour as per the desire of the wearer. The wearer has to just drape the saree and imagine the preferred colour with closed eyes for 10 seconds, and bingo, it will be altered. The best thing is that there is no limit to the number of changes and the quality and newness of the saree remains evergreen. This priceless saree is named Drivel and is priced at INR 50,00,000 only.

Invisible Serum

The Intelligence Bureau of Aalasapalli has been producing a serum since ages, which has the property of making anyone invisible if they spray even a puff of it on them. They have been exporting it to many countries around the world. On April 1, 2022, it is available to the public at all government-owned serum stores. This indeed is great news for people of Odisha who wish to become invisible.

Early Humans

In the Gotiiephak sanctuary of Malkangiri district there is a protected settlement of early humans. They are kangaroo-like who have pouches on their belly and live a prehistoric lifestyle. Only historians and scientists are allowed into this sanctuary and only after prior permission and documentation by the government. This sanctuary holds a population of about 10,000 people. Recently this sanctuary came into the picture when one of the inhabitants escaped the forest and created havoc in the nearby villages and people assumed it to be a ghost or demon.

“The man looked like a monster with long hair all over his body and he was jumping on his four limbs. and growling. He was very dreadful and scary to look at. Finally, all the villagers trapped him and called the local authorities. This is when we realised that there was a secret sanctuary here,” said a resident of a nearby village.

On this auspicious occasion of April Fools’ Day, My City Links takes the opportunity to take its readers on a reely merry-go-round of fabricated stories of Odisha. You can now stop scratching your brain and bothering Google about the authenticity of all the false facts.

Haha! Keep smiling!
