Here’s How The Chandi Temple Of Cuttack May Look After A Facelift
The famous Chandi Temple of Cuttack is about to get a facelift soon as part of the integrated development of heritage, monuments and tourist destination scheme of the state government’s 5T initiative. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved a budget of Rs 70 crores for the proposed makeover. It will be completed within a year.
A stone boundary wall with four gates will be constructed around the temple premises. A yajna mandap, a Chandi patha mandap, a mundan (tonsuring) mandap, a Hanuman temple, a discourse hall and a kitchen will also be constructed inside the temple area. The entire floor of the temple premises will be covered with Khondalite stones. For the convenience of devotees, a yatri niwas, restrooms, office building, parking, open spaces, police control room, cloakroom, prasad sevan system, safe drinking water, interpretation center, etc. will be constructed. As many as 18 shops will be set up for displaced shopkeepers.
Stating that the development of the shrine will play a significant role in the overall development of Cuttack city, Patnaik sought the cooperation of the people of the city for the implementation of the revamp project. As per the state government, the objective of the project is to create a beautiful spiritual atmosphere for the devotees as well as tourists along with all necessary amenities for a convenient and hassle-free darshan.
The Chandi Temple is one of the oldest temples in Odisha, dedicated to Goddess Chandi, the presiding deity of Cuttack and it attracts more than 25 lakh devotees a year. It is also famous for the annual Durga Puja which takes place for 16 days and Kali Puja festival.
