HealthCare Facilities In Ganjam Win Maximum Central Awards In Odisha
Ganjam emerged as the best district in Odisha in terms of providing efficient healthcare services to its people. Altogether 87 of the district’s facilities bagged this year’s Kayakalp Award, sponsored by the Union ministry of health and family welfare, which were announced on Tuesday. This is the most by any district in the state.
Ganjam was followed by Kalahandi (63), Keonjhar (62), Cuttack (59) and Puri (49). In all, 881 healthcare facilities of Odisha have won the award- 22 District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs), 173 sub-divisional and Community Health Centres, 420 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), 73 Urban PHCs and Community Health Centres and 193 sub-centres.
In Ganjam district, the only District Headquarter Hospital (DHH)- City Hospital, 18 Community Health Centres (CHCs)/ Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) and 11 sub-centres have been awarded. The City Hospital has been receiving the Kayakalp Award for four years in a row, said Uma Shankar Mishra, Chief District Medical Officer of Ganjam.
In Gajapati district 26 healthcare facilities have won the award. Almost all facilities in the district, including CHC Chandragiri, grabbed the award this year. “In Chandragiri CHC, we have adopted several eco-friendly measures like recycling papers, plastic-free materials, solar systems and parks etc,” said Gajapati Collector Lingaraj Panda. The energy audit in the CHC was done by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, he added.
