Eco-Friendly Green Hydrogen Buses to Roll Out Soon
The Odisha government has taken a major step towards eco-friendly transportation by signing a tripartite MoU with NTPC, GRIDCO, and CRUT for introducing green hydrogen buses into the state’s transport system.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo and Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of achieving a net-zero carbon footprint.
Deputy CM Singh Deo emphasized that the initiative focuses on revolutionizing Odisha’s public transport by implementing innovative green energy technologies. The agreement will remain effective for five years, with NTPC handling hydrogen production, GRIDCO ensuring renewable energy supply, and CRUT managing bus operations.
The project falls under the National Green Hydrogen Mission's "Scheme Guidelines for Implementation of Pilot Projects for Green Hydrogen in the Transport Sector," issued by the MNRE. The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) will invest ₹19.5 crore in this pilot project, facilitating the shift from fossil fuel-based buses to hydrogen-powered, eco-friendly alternatives.
