Drink And Dine With A View: Rooftop Restaurants Emerging Trend In Odisha

As the Government gradually lifts COVID-19 restrictions on the hospitality industry, restaurants and hotels have started adopting creative ways to reinstate food and beverage services to win back customers. In order to stay ahead in the race, more hotels and restaurants are adding rooftop dining and bar facilities to increase the overall customer experience. Apart from its revenue generating potential, the rooftop concept also gives diners an extra ambience and space, which is suitable for the social distancing requirements. The rooftops provide a great view of the city skyline and also serve as the best place for socially distanced outdoor dining.

Though new, rooftop dining is now the emerging trend in Odisha. The State Capital Bhubaneswar has become a hotspot for rooftop bars and restaurants while the Silver City Cuttack is slowly catching up with the trend with its lone popular rooftop restaurant called ‘Blast’ which serves a large number of customers on a daily basis.

Open-air restaurants such as Aangan Horizon, Oopre, Khopcha and Adda Unplugged in the Capital city have become a favourite hanging out a place not only for millennials but also for families preferring outdoor dining experience with their loved ones. Rooftop bars and restaurants provide a breathtaking atmosphere with a panoramic view of the city.

Known for its mouth-watering delicacies, Odisha is also home to many successful food bloggers who are helping fellow foodies to find out the right places to dine in. Popular as @foodie_junction on Instagram with more than 11K followers, Prem Purusottam is a gourmet and nature lover who is a big fan of rooftop dining. He said, “Nothing can beat the experience of having your favourite dishes amid the chilling evening breeze and dim lights. Though it has really been long since people had fun at their favourite places, it is relieving to see things getting back to normal.” Prem has been invited to The HHI, Booze Buzz Inhouse, Pramod Convention (Cuttack), Patiala House, Adda Unplugged and many more top restaurants and hotels to try out dishes and comment on them.

Another ardent lover of rooftop bars and restaurants is Sinorita Dash whose Instagram handle @foodishah has around 10K followers. She has collaborated with many popular brands like The Chocolate House, The China Hut, WOW Momo and Red Bull India. Senorita said rooftop dining not only provides a pleasant ambience but also a tummy full of good food. Her personal favourite rooftop restaurant is Oopre but due to COVID-19, she has not been able to visit the place. Sinorita is happy that business in restaurants has started bouncing back and she can finally satisfy her taste buds with her favourite delicacies once again.

Similarly, Subhransu Sekhar, commonly known as @freesoulfoodies on Instagram, said, “I get excited while talking about rooftop bars and restaurants because one can have all kinds of fun like gossips, dance, the congregation as well as drool over the best food.” He requested people to visit places to dine in by strictly adhering to COVID-19 guidelines and maintain physical distance. Subhransu has collaborated with Three Kings, Khopcha and Caffeine under My Bhubaneswar.

As adhering to COVID-19 norms in an indoor setting is difficult, restaurants are thinking of ways to add outdoor seating to maintain the required social distance among diners. The rooftop concept has come as a saviour for many with its comfortable outdoor dining space. So, make sure you visit a rooftop restaurant to binge on your favourite dishes with some stunning views of the cityscape.
