Dress code to be enforced at Jagannath Temple in Puri for devotees

From the beginning of the next calendar year, that is January 1, 2024, devotees will have to adhere to the new dress code norms to be enforced by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration while visiting the Jagannath temple. “Devotees should wear traditional clothes while visiting Jagannath temple. They should not wear clothes such as shorts, ripped jeans and skirts. Dress code has been introduced at several shrines across the country,” said Sree Jagannath Temple Administration, or SJTA chief administrator Ranjan Kumar Das.

Security personnel at the Singha Dwar and pratihari servitors have been assigned the task of enforcing proper dress code in the temple premises. This decision came after a few people were found with “indecent” attire inside the temple in the past.  As per temple officials, the campaign to create awareness about the new dress code would begin from Tuesday (10th October,2023).

Previously, on October, 2021, dress code for servitors had been imposed by the Temple administration. As per the code, the servitors have been directed to wear only dhoti, towel and patta while performing their duties in the temple.
