Dhauli Kalinga Mahotsav Comes To An End With Spellbinding Performances
Hosted jointly by the Culture Department and the Orissa Dance Academy (ODA), Bhubaneswar in association with Art Vision, the 18th edition of Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav celebrated Odisha’s rich cultural heritage. It kicked off on Tuesday evening, presenting classical dance, martial art forms and folk performances representing the various cultural hues of India. It came to an end on Thursday.
With the aim to spread the gospel of peace and rejuvenating the nuances of Indian classical dances, music and martial dance the valedictory evening was a splendid one leaving the aesthete mesmerised.
Ruchi Buddha Samman Award 2022 was presented to Professor Priyambada Mohanty Hejmadi, renowned Odissi danseuse and former vice-chancellor of Sambalpur University for her contribution in the field of Odissi dance on the concluding day of the 18th Dhauli Kalinga Mahotsav.
The last day’s programme of the three-day event started with tabla recital by Pramod Kumar Sahoo and Group from Colours of Rhythm, Bhubaneswar. They presented traditional tabla playing methods with ‘peshkar’ and different types of ‘kayda’, ‘jaati’, ‘gat’, ‘rela’, ‘tukra’ and ‘chakradhar’. The next item was Odissi dance by the students of Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar led by Guru Aruna Mohanty. They presented ‘Aashara Kirana’ (Rays of Hope) based on the SCB Medical College of Cuttack. The dance was conceptualised and choreographed by Aruna Mohanty.
The last presentation of the evening was martial dance Thang-Ta by G Biseshwor Sharma & Group from Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Manipur. They presented different forms of Thang-Ta including Thang Leiteng Haiba, Thang-Ta Chainaba, Cheirol Jagoi, Thang-Chungoi Yannaba, Thangjou Ani Yannaba, Thabi Kakpa and Thang Ahum Yannaba.
Dr. Justice S Muralidhar, Chief Justice, Orissa High Court; R Balakrishnan, Chief Advisor, Chief Minister’s Office; Satyananda Mishra, President, Orissa Dance Academy; Durga Prasad Mohapatra, Additional Secretary, Tourism Department; Puja Mishra, Joint Secretary, Tourism Department and Guru Ileana Citaristi, Secretary, Art Vision were among the dignitaries who attended the programme.
