Collaborating Modern Art With Ancient Is The New fashion.

Collaborating Modern Art With Ancient Is The New fashion.

We are living in an era where ‘fusion’ is the most common thing, and of course fashion is something which needs it the most to evolve with time. With the increasing demand, many young and talented designers are coming out each year. Here is such an example: Goodlee Rani, an alumni of JD Institute of Fashion and Technology is all set to create her own space in the apparel industry.

Recently My City Links spotted this young designer while she was showcasing her unique designs at ‘Toshali Craft Mela 2021’. In an open conversation Goodlee shared her journey till date with her own brand called ‘Mrigika’. ‘Mrig’ means ‘Deer’ and Mrigika would be the ornamental name of the same. That is how the brand derived its name. Mrigika specialises in both handloom as well as machine made fabrics having raw materials majorly of khadi, tassar and cotton. Goodlee incorporates her talent of 3D hand painting into the fabrics.

She said, “I enjoy mixing one form of art with another. Like tribal art forms with Gond painting and pattachitra with African print. The plan is to try merging more and more designs from all over the world. That will help me represent Odisha on a higher platform. The government has always been helpful to me by letting me be a part of Toshali Crafts Mela from the last 3 years consistently.”

Goodlee developed her interest for fabric and painting when she was only 10 years old. That is exactly when she had realised that she wants to pursue a career in fashion designing. Having finished her formal education in Computer Science she was constantly feeling the urge of missing out something. That is when she answered her calling and made the choice to go ahead with studying Fashion Designing.

“The ideal way to break into the industry is by having a very strong foundation. One needs to have enough knowledge about fabric and art. Once you have done that, you may proceed to the next step of applying the knowledge gained by practicing religiously. A little bit of support from your family always adds a lot of flavour to your journey,” added Goodlee.

Being functional from past three years, the company is focusing upon customisable and pre-stitched clothes for ladies, gents as well as children.  The customisable and pre designed ones could be purchased directly from the website or Instagram handle. For other hand painted unstitched materials you could check them out on Amazon.

“The competition in the industry will always be there. But Mrigika is trying it’s best to cater to its customers by focusing on being unique by its 3D Ornamental Designs and portraying stories of ancient art and mythology.” she signed off.
