Chandan Yatra 2025: Insurance for Sevayats & Devotees, Fireworks Banned

Chandan Yatra 2025: Insurance for Sevayats & Devotees, Fireworks Banned

This year’s Chandan Yatra in Puri will see enhanced safety measures as the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has decided to bring sevayats and devotees under insurance coverage. The decision was taken during a meeting between Srimandir chief administrator Arabinda Padhee and the Chhatisha Nijog.

To ensure smooth rituals and avoid mishaps, no fireworks will be allowed during the celebrations at Narendra Puskarini. Two first aid centres will also be set up as precautionary measures.

The move comes after the tragic firecracker blast during the Bhaunri Yatra last year that claimed 17 lives and injured over 30 people.

The niti committee has finalised the schedule for the Yatra. On Akshaya Tritiya, the Dwadash Yatra and Nakshatra Bandapana rituals will begin at 3 PM. Idols will be placed on palanquins by 3:30 PM, and after Agyanmala Bije, the journey to Narendra Puskarini will begin at 4 PM.

On the heritage front, conservation of Bhitara Ratna Bhandar is complete, while renovation of Bahara Ratna Bhandar is underway. The administration also plans to gold plate the gate of Bhitara Ratna Bhandar and silver plate the gate of Bahara Ratna Bhandar, in collaboration with the ASI.

During the meeting, meritorious students from servitor families were also felicitated with financial assistance. The event was attended by Collector Siddhartha Shankar Swain and SP Vinit Agarwal, among others.
