Centre’s ₹7,000 Crore Plan to Transform Odisha into IT Hub: Minister Vaishnaw
The Central government is set to invest ₹7,000 crore to establish Odisha as a premier IT hub, positioning it on the global technology map, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced at the Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha Conclave 2025.
A state-of-the-art 3 million sqft IT hub is under development in Bhubaneswar, with an additional 12 million sqft facility planned to attract top IT firms. "Odisha is set to become a preferred destination for global IT giants with its robust infrastructure, strategic investments, and skilled workforce," Vaishnaw stated.
Highlighting India’s Semiconductor Mission, he emphasized the country’s rapid strides in semiconductor manufacturing. Seven more universities in Odisha will introduce semiconductor programs, adding to the four already selected by the state. He also announced plans to establish an AI compute facility and data center in Odisha, reinforcing India's AI ambitions.
India’s AI sector has attracted bids to create 18,000 GPUs, demonstrating strong investor interest. Odisha will also host the first plant for high-density printed circuit boards (PCBs), further strengthening its role in India’s technological landscape.
During the event, new STPI centers were virtually inaugurated in Jeypore and Jajpur, and CDAC RISC-V Boards were distributed to 10 school students. Key MoUs were signed between the Odisha government, Nasscom, Wadhwani Foundation, and SFAL to establish Centers of Excellence in AI, youth skilling, and the O-Chip program.
Additionally, IIT-Bhubaneswar’s Silicon Carbide Research Innovation Centre was inaugurated, marking another milestone in Odisha’s IT and electronics innovation ecosystem.
