Celebrating World Milk Day With Delectable Drinks
The importance of milk is not unknown to anyone. Established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) to recognize the importance of milk as a global food, World Milk Day has been observed on 1st June each year since 2001. The aim of celebrating this day is to raise awareness about milk and its importance as a global food.
Unrestricted to any age, the prodigal milk offers a bountiful supply of health benefits to people of all age groups. Nevertheless, not everyone likes the taste of plain milk or regular flavoured milk. So My City Links enlists some milk-based delicious drinks which you can devour this summer.
Mango Mastani
If you are bored of a simple mango milkshake, add some eclectic flavour to it with cardamom, ice-cream, almonds, mango ice-cream and garnish it with silver warq. It not only gives a soothing taste but also refreshes the mood and hydrates the body. With mangos abounding in Odia households, it is a great drink to prepare for your family during this lockdown.
Strawberry Milkshake
The tarty flavour of strawberries mixed with milk and sweetened with sugar produces a vibrant drink, which is apt for hydration during summers. A simple three-ingredient drink, it is also effective in nourishing the skin and hair. Since, strawberries are scarce in Odisha, you can opt for strawberry-flavored ice-cream mixed with chilled milk.
Chocolate Milkshake
This creamy and chocolatey drink is perfect for summer breakfast. Chocolate, cocoa powder, hazelnut paste, hazelnuts and milk, all come together to make this scrumptious drink. Or go by 10 year old Jagrit Agarwal’s personal recipe, which is, “Take a generous amount of chocolate, add chilled milk and blend it well. Then enjoy the delicious drink, but don’t forget to save a glass for Mumma as a peace-offering to escape the mess made in the kitchen.”
Rose Sherbet
Rose essence refreshes and hydrates the body during summer. It is a common concentrated drink available in every household and a go-to drink to serve to guests. Mix the essence with milk and sugar syrup, and top the drink with beautiful rose petals, and a delectable drink is ready to be served. “This was my go-to drink when I returned from school after a tiring day. I still feel nostalgic about my school days when I come across its sweet aroma,” shared Sohel Khan, an IT-professional.
Banana Smoothie
Bananas are delicious, but when they become extra ripe and turn brown, it is not appreciated by many. These bananas can be put to better use by making a filling and yummy drink. Blend the bananas and milk together, give it a slight sweet twist by adding vanilla essence and top it with a scoop of ice-cream. Ta-da.
Cold Coffee
Everybody loves a hot cup of coffee to kick start the day. But when the same coffee is chilled and sprinkled with a few chocolate bits, it tastes heavenly. The most-sought after drink by mostly teenagers, it is both delicious and refreshing.
Almond Milk Thandai
Summers cannot be let go without relishing on everybody’s favourite thandai as often as possible. Make this nutrition-filled milk thandai with the goodness of almonds, pistachios and saffron. Rich in ingredients and taste, it is a healthy and delicious drink. Summers are incomplete without a delicious glass of thandai.
Turmeric Latte
The sophisticated named drink is in fact our traditional ‘haldi ka doodh’ which has gained international fame. Its benefits are now not a secret anymore and people enjoy it quite often. A pinch of turmeric powder mixed in milk, enriched with ginger powder and cinnamon, does wonders. As per Pratik, his mother fooled him the first time by offering him turmeric ‘latte’ which he assumed to be something extraordinary. “But I guess I like it. It has become a regular immunity boosting drink since the pandemic,” he shared.
Enjoy this summer in the pink of health with these cooling milk drinks that are everything but boring.
