Celebrate Eid With These Amazing Heart Tugging Ads

Eid al-Adha is the biggest celebration in the Islamic calendar. Eid marks the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Although it has no direct relation to the pilgrimage, it is celebrated a day after the completion of Hajj, hence it holds cultural significance in the calendar. Eid celebrates the Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah. 

Eid is associated with joy and merry-making and people spend time with family, visit friends and exchange sweets and gifts. The children wait eagerly to receive eidis (money) from elders. Muslims feast on the day and celebrate with abandon. . 

Eid is celebrated in much grandeur across India and is significant for the business of all kinds. Just like Diwali, Holi and Christmas, Eid is also the time when businesses roll out special ads and some of them are really great. These days integrating social and humane messages into TVCs in creative ways is the norm as the world is going through a socio-cultural evolution. 

My City Links takes a look at some of the best Eid ads by some of the biggest brands in the world. 

Neki Hi Noor – Tata Motors (2020)

This ad is conceptualised by Ogilvy India and celebrates truckers through a subtle brand placement i.e. Tata Trucks. It celebrates the act of ‘neki’ or doing good deeds to help others. It salutes truck drivers for the essential service they provide by transporting goods even during this pandemic. Eid is a time when Muslims return to their families to celebrate but truck drivers don’t have that luxury. The ad communicates the message of doing good through a child’s deeds inspired by his father who is a trucker.

Katra Katra Neki – Tata Motors Middle East and Africa (2019)

This ad examines what happens when a bunch of six-year-olds decide to come together to represent the true spirit of celebrating Ramadan which is doing good. Children don’t see or understand the barriers and divisions created by adults on the basis of race and religion. They see everyone as themselves. Tata Motors celebrates immigrant drivers who do their duties with dedication, no matter what.

Live After You Leave – Fortis Healthcare (2018)

This ad focuses on doing something good for others by donating organs. When it comes to Organ Donation Rate (ODR), India stands at an abysmal 0.88 per million and the various causes for this are socio-cultural and religious beliefs. It breaks the myths to encourage more people to donate their organs. And what better occasion to do something good for others than Eid, a celebration of the act of goodness. 

Neki Mubaarak – Big Bazaar (2016)

Big Bazaar joined hands with Mudra DDB to create this beautiful 40-second spot. It focuses on compassion and religious harmony. It portrays that when everyone understands each other’s prerogatives and choices and yet chooses to be accommodative, the world will be a better place. Eid is certainly the occasion to celebrate harmony. Like every great ad, this one also relies on subtle brand placement in an emotionally powerful story.

Meetha Toh Meetha Hota Hai – Cadbury Celebrations (2019)

Ogilvy maintains the theme of ‘meetha for celebration’ as is the tradition of Cadbury. This 90-second TVC does so with elan through a simple story. When people of different faiths meet without much knowledge of each other’s practices, a pack of Cadbury Celebrations is a good idea because ‘meetha toh meetha hota hai.’ And Eid is all about the sweetness of celebrations.
