Cancer Awareness Programme Reaches Out The Citizens Of Bhubaneswar

Over the last few decades cancer has become a serious cause of concern for people around
the world. Tens of millions of people are diagnosed with the terrible disease every year.
According to a report of the World Health Organization (WHO), cancers figure among the
leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for almost 9.6 million deaths every year.

To encourage the citizens of Bhubaneswar to act and inspire change in creating a cancer-free
world, city based Insignia Management Consulting in association with Monalisha Creations
organized an awareness programme at Esplanade, Bhubaneswar. A host of celebrities from
various walks of life starting from doctors to renowned media personalities and sportspersons of
the state united in solidarity to disseminate information, spread awareness and encourage
people for treatment.

Superstars from the Odisha Blind Cricket Team including captain and World Cup Hero Mohd.
Jafar Iqbal, RJs KP and Guddi, Mrs Opera India Global 2019 Satabdi Suryasnata, Dr. Niharika
Dash, Dietician/Nutritionist and cinestar, sportspersons from Utkala Karate school and Tennis
Gurukul amongst others came together to raise awareness about cancer.

A ramp show was organised where along with the doctors, a bunch of children bedazzled the
stage and by sharing their thoughts with the audience. Director of Insignia Management
Consulting SK Abdul Bari said, “the objective of organising an event like this on World Cancer
Day is to make more sense by building more awareness about it and inspiring people to never
lose hope. Cancer not only kills the person diagnosed with it but also kills the happiness of the
family. It’s our small initiative to share the idea that it is always good to hold on to our health. It’s
time we reduce misconceptions about cancer and help people get the right information about it.‘’

Dr. Sandip Mishra, Sr Scientist at Institute of Life Sciences highlighted the new scientific
methods to beat cancer and its after effects during the event. Dr. Manoj Kishore Chhotray Sr.
Medical Consultant, APOLLO Hospital and Dr. Sampat Dash Pulmonologist, ADITYA ASHWINI
Hospital were among the eminent invited guests.

Monalisha Mohanty, Founder, Monalisha Creations said ‘’ Cancer is the most dreaded disease
of our times. It grows rampantly and is the cause for millions of deaths every year but it is
possible to lessen the risk, overcome the challenges through early diagnosis, treatments and
palliative care. This event is specifically envisioned to reaffirm this year’s theme for cancer day-
‘I Am and I Will’, making people aware about the disease and inspire them to win the battle.’’

Anuradha Dash, Secretary of Satya Nagar Ladies Forum, said, “I lost my mother to breast
cancer 10 years ago and since then I have dedicated myself towards raising awareness about
the disease. This event was well done and I loved the involvement of children being a part of it.

It was so heartening to see so many celebrities come together for a cause and I would like to
invite more and more people to come forward in this fight against this disease.”
