BMC Launches Vaccination On Wheels In Bhubaneswar

The second wave of COVID 19 seems to be unstoppable right now. With rapid increase of COVID positive cases in Bhubaneswar it has become top priority of the government to inoculate as many people as soon as possible. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC)  began drive-in vaccination in the city on Saturday at the Esplanade One mall. 

The vaccination was open for the above 45 age group. The beneficiaries waiting for their second dose got the jab. The target is to vaccinate 400 people everyday. The vaccine doses were administered after online slot booking which is verified against Aadhar Card and the certificate of the first dose. Two persons on four wheelers and one person on bikes were allowed. 

The drive-in vaccination took place at the parking lot of the mall. This was a pilot to check the participation of the citizens of the temple city and the implementation of the process. Anshuman Rath, Zonal Deputy Commissioner, South-East said, “BMC has started vaccination drive on wheels on a pilot basis from today. We have planned to vaccinate 400 people who have booked the slot for their second dose.”

“We have received a good response from people, so we are planning to launch vaccination on wheels at other places in Bhubaneswar,” he added. Any citizen above 45 years of age who has taken their first dose at government or private facilities can book their slot for the second dose. The BMC had actively publicised the initiative across various platforms and social media on Friday. 

According to BMC Prem Chandra Chaudhury, this drive-in is organised to maintain social distancing without creating a rush at the vaccination site. He informed that the BMC is scouting for more locations like malls and market complexes where such drive-ins can be held. Bhubaneswar has 1,09,100 people in the 45+ age group whose second dose of vaccine is due,
