Bargarh farmers demand Odisha implement Chhattisgarh's paddy procurement model

Amid discontent over grain analyzer machines in kharif paddy procurement, a Jai Kisan Andolan delegation visited mandis in Chhattisgarh to study its paddy purchase system.

Led by farmer leader Siba Prasad Pradhan, the team observed smooth procurement at mandis in Chibarakuta and Sagarpali. Farmers there receive tokens, moisture tests are conducted manually, and paddy is processed within a day without grain analyzer machines.

Pradhan criticized Odisha's procurement system, alleging mill owners and brokers exploit farmers under BJD rule. He urged the BJP-led state government to fulfill its promises of eliminating middlemen and adopting Chhattisgarh’s model.

The delegation demanded Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, visiting Sohela on December 8, announce the new model, stop grain analyzer use, and release Rs 800 per quintal input subsidy. Failure to act will prompt farmer protests, they warned.
