‘Premam’ To Stream On Disney+ Hotstar Soon

The Odia film industry is on a streak to make films that are not only unique but also worthwhile. One such movie, starring Babushaan Mohanty opposite the glam-girl of Ollywood, Prakruti Mishra, in the lead role, ‘Premam’ has been directed by popular director Tapas Sargharia. Made under the banner Emoji Film and Entertainment, Ollywood megastar Siddhanta Mohapatra will be seen playing a special character in the film. Although the theatrical release of the film has been scheduled on May 27, according to the sources due to some unknown reasons it has been rescheduled to June 3. Another interesting fact about the film is that it will be the first Odia flick to be streamed on an international OTT platform, that is, Disney+ Hotstar soon.

Not revealing much about the story of the film, Tapas said, “Keeping the commercial aspects in mind, I have also tried to make a few content-driven films before like Ishq Tu Hi Tu, Kalki and Khusi, etc. But this one is very special to me. This is not based on any regular love story; the content is the ‘hero’ of this film. The characterization has been done according to the present generation’s point of view. As this is a big-budget film, thankfully along with the producer we have taken a combined risk to make a good film.”

After Thukul (2012), this is the second film where Prakruti will share the screen with Babushan. She threw insight on her character in the film, saying, “Premam is a great comeback for me script-wise and it’s also the dream project of Tapas dada. Babushan has personally selected this project to do. The story is beautiful and the characters have been portrayed without any glamour. This is the second time I am playing the character of a simple girl as I have once played a slightly similar character in the film Hello Arsi (which has won a National Award).” 

“Not overdoing anything I have tried my best to keep my character within the format of acting being appreciated these days,” she added.

Hopeful for the new approach, Babushaan said, “We have tried to get out of the orthodox films usually made in Ollywood. We are trying to make something unique because the Odia film industry has deteriorated to an extent after the pandemic with TV channels making low budget films for satellite releases. That’s the reason behind this combined effort of our team to change the scenario.”

“If you search for an Odia cinema on any national OTT platform, you will be disappointed. I hope it will be an exception as our team is all set to make them visible on Disney+ Hotstar very soon,” the actor signed off.

After the national channel, Zee TV came up with Zee Sarthak for Odia audience, now Star is has launched a channel named Star Kiran for the Odisha region. Now Zee Sarthak’s contents are being released on the OTT Zee5, and definitely, Star Kiran’s contents will be released on Disney+ Hotstar. So there is hope for worthy Odia content to get more recognition on the national platforms.
