Acclaimed as The Father Of Odia Movement, Madhusudan Das had a prime role in shaping a glorious Odisha. One of the greatest freedom fighters, he zealously led the movement for the constitution of Odisha as a separate province. As the son of the soil, this luminary also has many firsts to his credit, like he was the first Odia to complete BA, LLB degrees, honored as the first Odia lawyer as well as the one to become a minister in the Bihar-Odisha Provincial Council.
Aptly remembered as Barrister Madhusudan Das, this legendary lawyers’ birth anniversary is even celebrated as Lawyers’ Day in the State.
Madhusudan was the moving spirit of Odisha for about half a century and highly influenced its political, economic and social life. To Mahatma Gandhi, Madhusudan was a great Indian patriot.
Madhubabu as he is popularly known was born in Satyabhamapur village of Cuttack on April 28, 1848. Even if his place of birth is now in a state of neglect, this great man’s legacy still prevails in some of the aspects of the village.
