The Annual Fest Of XIMB And What To Expect In Xpressions 2016!

An exciting melange of innovative games, events and a glitzy celeb studded evening is what makes this cultural fest, ‘Xpressions’ stand out among others. Celebrated by the coveted Xavier’s Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, this yearly affair is the consequence of all its students dedicatedly working towards it. The vibrant fest is annually awaited not only by the XIMB students but other B-schools as well. Having undergone changes and additions throughout their journey since its inception in 1998, this celebration is looked up as eastern India’s biggest B-school fest! 


As enthusiasts, students, spectators are inching closer towards the D day(s) i.e. 11th -13th November 2016, so is the eagerness surging higher amongst all. While the last-minute preparations are in full swing, everybody’s mood is gearing up to partake in the plethora of feisty events, fun & merry making. Let’s find out exactly what forms a part of this festivity and everything that Xpressions’ 16 has in store for all of us! 


The theme of this year will revolve around the title of Like Never Before. It has been decided on the lines that the night of Celeblitz programme will be graced by the legendary trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy who will be visiting Odisha together, for the first time. One can also look forward to the Coke Studio night wherein the dexterous Lagori band will keep the audience entertained, with their mellifluous renditions!




Besides the musical extravaganza, various cultural activities in the form of dance, fashion shows etc. are being organised. While Decibelz, a Battle of Bands witnesses the participants performing different forms of rock, soft, metallic and grunge music, Goonj, on the other hand is a solo singing event that discovers some of the finest melodious voices of the country. Next is Carnival De Vogue, the high end fashion show, where students from different colleges walk down the ramp with great flair. Other spectacular events include Aaghaaz, the nukkad natak competition and Thirkan, the dance competition. There is also a parliamentary debate competition named Xansad which comprises of vigorous debate sessions across all the teams, giving a sneak peek into the diplomatic thinking and energetic approach of today’s youth!




Apart from the aforementioned activities, there has been a fresh addition to this year’s agenda. It is the introduction of a new Council named Lord Mountbatten Plan (LMP) for India-Pakistan partition which seeks to critically assess what was done during that time and what could have been done instead. It is basically a role-playing event, wherein participants will be portraying the roles of key leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and others, who were involved back in 1947. It is a must-attend event for all those who have a deep inclination towards the country’s historic & political matters! 




Then there are the regular game committees like Gladiator, Kurukshetra, Skill City, Helios, and Spardha that provide a platform to showcase one’s business skills. An array of online events like Nirnay, Parikrama, Trade Wars and EnigmaX are immensely popular among students of different colleges. The fest truly provides a medium for the students to unwind, hone their managing skills and get exposed to life like business situations!


Xpressions is not just about activities and events but taking a stroll in the campus during this time is an equally thrilling experience. Each year the campus is given a quirky and artistic touch which is typically created by the students themselves. As for this year, the decor will be based on Halloween and magic, that will certainly let every visitor captivated.
