Odisha Launches State’s First Mobile Resource Centre for Migrant Workers
In a step towards empowering migrant communities, Odisha has launched its first Mobile Migrant Resource Centre to spread awareness about government-supported livelihood and skill development programmes.
The initiative was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who is also the Chairman of the High-Level Task Force on Migrant Workers. The mobile centre will operate in five migration-prone blocks of Ganjam and Kendrapara districts, focusing on outreach to women, youth, and returning migrants.
Launched in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, FAO, International Organization for Migration (IOM), and supported by the UN’s Migrant Multi-Partner Trust Fund, the programme aims to promote inclusive development through skill-building and employment generation.
A toll-free helpline (1800-345-7885) has also been introduced to assist migrants with emergency support and access to information.
The launch event was attended by top officials including Arabinda Kumar Padhee (Principal Secretary, Agriculture Dept), Indramani Tripathi (Labour Commissioner), Sunil Shah (Protector of Emigrants, MEA), Subhranshu Mishra, and UN representatives from IOM and FAO.
