Bhubaneswar, October 25: Billed as a one-stop solution for all eye care needs, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital on Wednesday opened their first centre in the capital. Equipped with the best in-class facilities and trained staff, the new 10,000 sqft centre was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at BMC Bhawani Mall on Wednesday.
Although the city already has several eye hospitals, this is the first in the state which is equipped with a modular operation theatre wherein kith and kin of the patients can view the surgery live.
With facilities like laboratory, pharmacy and optical wing that offer wide range of frames and lenses of high quality and leading brands, the comprehensive centre will offer patients treatment for various diseases including cataract and refractive errors.
This is the first centre for the group in the city, second in the state and 77th centre in the entire country. Dr. Amar Agarwal, Chairman, Dr. Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospital said, “Around 80% of the eye ailments recorded in our country are either preventable or curable. However, due to lack of accessibility to quality eye care, they are left under treated. So, our main motto will be to bridge the accessibility gap.”
Talking to MCL, he further added, “This centre will truly be a one-stop solution for all eye-related problems. Like in India, there are 12 million people who are blind and among them 55% people lose their vision because of cataract which can be cured by laser. So, we are looking forward to cure more people with advanced facilities. We would also focus more on treatment, rather than business. For those who are in no position to avail advanced treatment for their eyes for lack of money, we would be providing free treatment on the basis of their proved income.”
“Our aim is to also provide high quality eye care facility to every city in Odisha. We will soon be opening our centres in three more cities, Sambalpur, Berhampur and Rourkela, across Odisha,” he informed.
Among others, the inauguration ceremony was graced by Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena and Health Secretary and Dr. P.K Meherda.
